Hi Vicky, Just a response to your post. I'm not sure what SPCA means so I do not know whether it runs a shelter. In Taiwan, the people who want to do something for the homeless animals are "real volunteers" I think, because they have to count on themselves. In the cases I know, no or few official organizations or the Authorizations provide such programs or the courses you mentioned, maybe only the private organizations do. The volunteers are organized but by themselves. There are shelters running in Taiwan certainly, but most of them are "personal" shelters. The reason I say "personal" is because the scale is different. One or two persons take care of a lot of dogs, no employees; the number of dogs can be hundrears in these shelters. Founds come in but not enough. Volunteers will help out but the person who runs the shelter only can "hope for more help". If he/she dies, what will happen to the dogs? No one has answers. But they are really heroes to the dogs!! However, in Taiwan, more and more people try to help the abandoned animals. Due to the different culture in the East and the West, we will not hope for a great step in this field in Taiwan but we can hope, and believe it will be better and better. Mum....too many complains and I apologize. |
