Hello Mum: Thank you for your response. SPCA stands for : Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. I know you have an 'RSPCA' in Taiwan - or at least there is an office there, because I taught some classes there. I don't know what they do, so this is my reason for asking. I have spent the last year looking for contacts for someone to tell me what the RSPCA in Taiwan does. Finally I have received a reply from Australia. I did try getting information for your RSPCA, but received no response. You said: In Taiwan, the people who want to do something for the homeless animals are "real volunteers" I think, because they have to count on themselves. Yes, you are certainly right! I was lucky enough to meet many of these people. They are working hard. I think the main difference between Taiwan and North America, is that it is illegal to abuse an animal in North America, and people are charged, go to court, and receive punishment for animal abuse. This doesn't mean that animals are not abused in North America, but is does mean that charges are brought against abusers, the police are involved, and the people can be fined (pay money) or go to jail. They often are not allowed to own an animal for many years. Animals are abused in North America of course - but because there is a law against animal abuse, the abusers can be charged, and be punished. Mum said: "in Taiwan, more and more people try to help the abandoned animals." As well, it seems that charging, fining, or jailing those found guilty of abuse may make animal abuse more socially unacceptable. Thank you for your reply Mum, |
